TALCHUM MASK PAINTING EXPERIENCE: EXPLORE KOREAN CULTURE AT DNTU
As part of a series of international cultural exchange and experience activities, the King Sejong Institute Bien Hoa, in collaboration with Dong Nai Technology University (DNTU), organized a traditional Korean mask painting (Talchum) workshop for students. The program provided an intuitive and creative learning space, allowing students to engage with Korean culture in a vibrant and accessible way.

During the program, students were introduced to an overview of Talchum – a unique Korean folk art form deeply rooted in the spiritual life of the people since the Three Kingdoms period (Goguryeo, Baekje, Silla) and flourished during the Joseon Dynasty.

Talchum is more than just a performing art; it is a medium for people to express their thoughts, satirize social injustices, and convey humanitarian messages through mask iconography.
Following the introduction, students participated in a hands-on workshop to decorate and paint masks by hand, choosing colors, patterns, and characters based on their personal interpretations. This activity helped them gain a deeper understanding of the symbolic meaning behind each mask style while fostering their aesthetic sense, dexterity, and creativity.

To conclude the program, the Organizing Committee presented meaningful gifts to students who created the most impressive mask designs, recognizing their exceptional creativity and deep understanding of Korean culture.

The Talchum mask painting activity serves as a testament to the effective collaboration between the King Sejong Institute Bien Hoa and Dong Nai Technology University (DNTU) in organizing cultural exchange programs for students.
Through this hands-on experience, students not only broaden their understanding of Korean culture but also hone their observation, creativity, and communication skills in a multicultural environment.
Looking ahead, both institutions expect to further strengthen their partnership by launching more practical exchange and educational activities. These efforts aim to enrich campus life and enhance the overall learning experience for DNTU students.
